Fact-Checkers Debunk Claims in Pro-Haley Ad Against DeSantis

The ad falsely attributes a quote to DeSantis and misrepresents his involvement in a company's expansion in Florida.

An ad from a super PAC supporting Nikki Haley falsely attributes a quote to Ron DeSantis, claiming he called China 'Florida’s most important trading partner.' The quote actually came from the now-defunct website of Enterprise Florida, a state agency that DeSantis did not directly control.
The ad also falsely claims that DeSantis allowed a Chinese military contractor to expand near a U.S. naval base. The company in question, Cirrus Aircraft, is a civilian flight training company and its expansion in Florida appears to have had no direct involvement from DeSantis.
DeSantis has signed several pieces of legislation distancing Florida from China, including a bill that dissolved Enterprise Florida and reassigned its recruitment efforts.
China is indeed a key trading partner for Florida, but this was the case even before DeSantis took office in 2019.
DeSantis and Haley are both potential Republican presidential candidates and have been trading accusations about each other's records on China.
