FAA Probes Delta 737 After Wing Flap Breaks En Route to Austin

Federal investigators are reviewing the case following Delta’s decision to pull the jet from service.

  • Delta Flight 1893 was flying from Orlando to Austin when damage to the left wing flap was reported before landing on Tuesday.
  • The FAA said the crew reported the issue after a safe arrival at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport around 3:10 p.m. local time.
  • Passenger Shanila Arif recorded video showing the flap dangling behind the wing and described significant shaking during the descent.
  • Delta said a portion of the left wing’s flap was not in place after landing and the Boeing 737 was taken out of service for maintenance.
  • There were 62 passengers and six crew members on board with no injuries reported, and the event follows other recent Delta 737 incidents including a gate contact in Atlanta.
