Overview
- Electra announced that the FAA closed the EL9’s G-1 Issue Paper on Friday, July 10, 2026, formally setting the aircraft’s certification basis for type certification.
- G-1 establishes which regulations and special conditions apply to the EL9 and how regulators will judge technologies that differ from conventional airplanes.
- Electra says the EL9 uses distributed hybrid-electric propulsion, blown-lift for ultra-short takeoff and landing, and advanced fly-by-wire controls, all of which are now covered by the agreed certification basis.
- The program now enters G-2, where Electra and the FAA must define means of compliance and map required engineering analyses, ground and flight testing, inspections, conformity work, and certification data.
- Electra’s performance figures, investor backing, defense contracts, and 2,200+ letters of intent are company-reported claims that will need validation through the G-2 compliance process and subsequent testing.
