Starship lifts off earlier this year for a test flight from South Texas. It was lost about 10 minutes later after going out of control and exploding. It was the second-straight failure of the rocket.

Overview

  • The FAA has authorized SpaceX to increase its annual Starship launches from 5 to 25 at its Boca Chica, Texas, site.
  • The approval follows a years-long review, concluding that the expanded launch activities would not significantly impact the environment under NEPA guidelines.
  • Environmental mitigations include limiting water truck deliveries to daytime hours and implementing employee shuttle systems to reduce traffic on local roads.
  • The decision supports SpaceX’s development of Starship, a reusable rocket system critical to NASA's Artemis program and future Mars missions.
  • Since 2017, SpaceX has conducted eight test flights at Starbase, using a test-to-failure strategy to advance Starship’s design despite environmental concerns.
