FA Suspends David Coote for Eight Weeks

The ban extends beyond his existing UEFA suspension after he admitted making a national slur against Jürgen Klopp in a 2020 recording.

Overview

  • The suspension prohibits him from officiating FA matches and requires attendance at a misconduct training session.
  • A three-person FA commission ruled in June that his 2020 video insulting former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp breached the association’s code of conduct.
  • Coote acknowledged the remarks as “crass, inappropriate and unworthy” and linked them to mental health difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • UEFA had previously barred him until June 30, 2026 over a separate video allegedly showing him snorting a white powder during Euro 2024 for bringing the sport into disrepute.
  • He was removed by PGMOL in December and it remains uncertain whether he had been active as a match official before the FA’s ruling.
