FA Panel Reprimands Lucas Paquetá for Non-Cooperation, Closes Spot-Fixing Case

The FA will not challenge the commission’s decision clearing him of spot-fixing.

Overview

  • An independent commission issued a reprimand and warning for two proven FA Rule F3 breaches after Paquetá failed to answer questions and provide information during the inquiry.
  • The same panel had cleared Paquetá in July of four spot-fixing charges, finding them not proven following hearings earlier in the year.
  • The written reasons note he followed legal advice, had limited English, later supplied a witness statement and volunteered his mobile devices, and therefore received no fine or suspension.
  • The commission ordered the FA to bear 90% of the case costs and described elements of the governing body’s legal approach as concerning and obviously flawed.
  • West Ham said the case is finally closed, while media report Paquetá and the club are considering legal action over the collapse of a prospective move to Manchester City.
