FA Independent Panel Clears Lucas Paquetá of Spot-Fixing Charges

The FA will publish its full report ahead of sanctions for two upheld breaches of its procedural rules

Overview

  • The panel concluded that evidence was insufficient to prove that Paquetá deliberately sought yellow cards to influence betting markets in four Premier League fixtures.
  • Allegations dated from November 2022 to August 2023 and covered matches against Leicester, Aston Villa, Leeds and Bournemouth.
  • Two counts of non-cooperation for failing to respond fully to FA investigators were upheld and will be subject to disciplinary measures.
  • West Ham United, Blackstone Chambers and Level maintained Paquetá’s innocence throughout the nine-month inquiry and formal hearing.
  • Full written reasons are forthcoming and will guide the FA’s sanctions under Rule E5 and related procedural regulations.
