The shutdown bars all development activity on current cars under FIA rules to enforce the sport’s cost cap

Overview

  • Teams have entered the first week of the break conducting tyre tests in Budapest while non-car-related maintenance continues at their factories.
  • A 14-day technical freeze mandated by FIA Sporting Regulations Article 24 prohibits any work on current F1 car projects, including wind tunnel operation, CFD simulations and simulator use.
  • FIA officials can monitor compliance by reviewing team communications, electronic device logs and laptop usage to detect potential shutdown breaches.
  • Repairs to cars damaged in the preceding Hungarian Grand Prix are allowed, as are non-F1 activities such as wind tunnel upkeep and IT system upgrades.
  • Full factory operations will resume the Monday before the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, with garage and equipment preparations starting the weekend prior.
