F1, FIA, and Extreme H Form Joint Hydrogen Working Group
The group aims to evaluate the future use of hydrogen in motorsport, with Extreme H planning to switch to hydrogen power from 2025.
- Formula One, FIA, and the rebranded Extreme H series have announced the formation of a joint hydrogen working group to evaluate the technology's future use in motorsport.
- Extreme H, formerly known as Extreme E, plans to switch to hydrogen power from 2025.
- The 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race will introduce a new hydrogen category from 2026, with the aim of having the entire top category powered by hydrogen from 2030.
- The working group will monitor the progression and development of hydrogen technology for fuel cells and battery systems, as well as infrastructure, transportation, charging, storage, and management, and safety implications.
- Extreme H plans to hold a full-speed shakedown of a prototype hydrogen-powered chassis this month, with a full testing programme in early 2024.
