Extremists Deny Eid Prayers to Ahmadi Minority in Seven Cities

The crackdown follows decades of legal bans along with a wave of violent attacks used to intimidate and coerce the community.

Overview

  • TLP activists and allied hard-line groups prevented Ahmadi worshippers from offering Eid-ul-Azha prayers in Khushab, Mirpur Khas, Lodhran, Bhakkar, Rajanpur, Umerkot, Larkana and Karachi.
  • Punjab police arrested two Ahmadis and charged three others under blasphemy section 298-C for attempting to perform sacrificial rites according to Ahmadi practices.
  • In Karachi’s Nazimabad district, TLP supporters compelled two community members to recite the Islamic declaration of faith and celebrated their coerced conversion.
  • These Eid-day measures follow the May killing of a senior Ahmadi doctor in Punjab and the desecration of over 100 Ahmadi graves earlier this month.
  • Legal amendments in 1974 and 1984 stripped Ahmadis of Muslim status and banned Islamic rituals and symbols, creating a framework for today’s institutional discrimination.
