Overview
- At 1:20 p.m., the NWS in Portland expanded extreme heat warnings until 10 p.m. Tuesday for John Day Basin, the Southern Blue Mountains foothills and regions of North Central and Central Oregon with highs of 99–103°F.
- Early Tuesday alerts covered Eastern Curry, Josephine and Jackson Counties plus Central Douglas and the Klamath Basin through 2 a.m. Wednesday, warning of temperatures up to 110°F and overnight lows of 65–70°F.
- Concurrent multi-state heat warnings forecast up to 112°F in parts of Arizona and 114°F around Las Vegas and the Lake Mead area.
- Warm overnight lows are expected to limit physiological recovery and heighten the risk of heat-related illnesses during this prolonged heat episode.
- Federal and local authorities recommend hydration, access to air-conditioned or shaded breaks, worker-rest protocols and avoidance of alcohol or caffeine to reduce heat stress.
