Overview
- A violent thunderstorm complex on Friday produced confirmed gusts up to about 143 km/h, very large hail up to 5–6 cm, and tens of thousands of lightning strikes across Switzerland, southern Germany and northern Italy.
- Dozens were hurt by hail in Switzerland, with around 40 people injured in Canton Zurich and several taken to hospital, many of them children.
- Local emergency crews report heavy structural damage in Singen (Bohlingen) where roughly 190 houses were hit and one building was declared uninhabitable while streets were temporarily impassable.
- Power and transport systems sustained major damage, including four toppled high‑voltage concrete pylons in Aargau and suspended rail services on routes such as Singen–Konstanz that are operating with bus replacements during repairs.
- Meteorologists say the storm formed from multiple long‑lived convective cells that amplified local extremes and the Deutscher Wetterdienst and SRF warn of further strong gusts, hail and heavy rain early next week that could slow cleanup and cause new damage.
