Extinction Rebellion Briefly Blocks Tracks at Amsterdam Centraal; Trains Running Again

The action followed a 3 p.m. ultimatum demanding a full economic embargo on Israel.

Overview

  • A small group of activists entered the tracks on the west side of the station around 7:30 p.m. local time and were removed within about 15 minutes.
  • NS confirmed that all rail traffic to and from Amsterdam Centraal was temporarily halted and later resumed, with residual delays for travelers.
  • Police made multiple arrests, though authorities did not immediately specify how many people were detained.
  • Demissionary State Secretary Thierry Aartsen called the track action life‑threatening and said it crossed a line, urging mayors, police, NS and ProRail to prevent or end such blockades.
  • The track occupation comes a week after a similar Extinction Rebellion action at The Hague Central that disrupted services for hours.
