Extinction Rebellion Blocks Amsterdam Highway in Protest Against ING Bank

Activists demand immediate halt to bank's fossil fuel financing despite planned phase-out by 2040.

Extinction Rebellion activists blocked a major highway near Amsterdam to protest ING Bank's financing of fossil fuels.
The protest involved hundreds of activists, including children and elderly people, some of whom glued their hands to the road.
Despite ING's announcement that it would cease investments in oil and gas by 2040, the group demands an immediate halt to such investments.
Police criticized the protesters for blocking the road close to the VU medical center, one of Amsterdam’s main hospitals.
Similar protests by Extinction Rebellion have taken place around the world, including in the Washington, D.C., area and The Hague.
