Explosives Found After Deadly Car-Ramming and Stabbing at Gush Etzion

The assault prompted intensive searches and bomb-disposal work following the UN's endorsement of a U.S. Gaza plan.

Overview

  • Aharon Cohen of Kiryat Arba was identified as the Israeli killed, while a woman remained in serious condition and a man and a teenager were reported in moderate condition.
  • Soldiers shot dead two assailants at the scene, and police sappers neutralized explosive materials, including reported pipe bombs, found in the attackers’ vehicle.
  • Authorities said the attackers rammed pedestrians at the junction south of Jerusalem, then exited with knives and stabbed bystanders before being stopped by on-site reservists.
  • Palestinian officials named the suspects as two 18-year-olds from the Hebron/Beit Ummar area, and Israeli forces launched roadblocks, searches and area closures after the attack.
  • Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad praised the operation without claiming responsibility, as the incident followed a surge in settler attacks, including arson in al-Jab'a, and the UN Security Council vote on Gaza.
