Overview

  • Two workers at Yuvraj Fireworks in Kariyapatti, Sowdammal (53) and Karuppaiah (35), were killed instantly when the explosion tore through a manufacturing shed on June 11, 2025.
  • Three other workers—C. Murugan, his wife Petchiammal, and A. Ganesan—sustained injuries and were admitted to Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital.
  • Over 130 employees were present when the licensed unit, approved by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation, experienced the blast around 9 a.m.
  • Officials suspect that overnight decomposition of leftover cracker chemicals in the production shed triggered the reactive explosion.
