Overview
- An explosion in a first-floor apartment sparked a fire that spread to the floors above and below in a four-storey block early Wednesday morning.
- Six fire crews from Bomberos de la Comunidad de Madrid, Guardia Civil officers and a large Summa 112 medical deployment evacuated the building and brought the blaze under control.
- No people were reported injured but emergency teams rescued four dogs from the building; three died from smoke inhalation and a fourth was resuscitated and handed to a veterinarian.
- Authorities have not determined the cause of the blast and are investigating on scene while officials also assess whether the structure was still under construction or already inhabited.
- The block remains evacuated as crews carry out safety and forensic checks, and nearby residents have been asked to avoid the area while the inquiry and structural inspections continue.
