Overview
- Cut 1–2 inches (2–3 cm) off the trunk as soon as the tree comes out of the net to open pores for water uptake.
- Stand the tree in water immediately, top up daily with roughly 0.5–2 litres, and keep at least two inches of water above the base.
- Use plain water only, as experts say soft drinks, sugars or additives are unnecessary and may hinder freshness.
- Position the tree in a cool spot away from radiators or direct heat, with a place near a window helping to limit drying.
- Choose needle‑retaining varieties such as Nordmann fir, let branches relax before decorating, and avoid soil or sand in the stand.
