Exodus of Company Directors Reaches 3,790 as UK Tax Reforms Bite

Relocations surged after non-dom status was abolished with more than 150 directors moving to the UAE under a Treasury defense of its competitive tax regime.

Overview

  • Companies House data show 3,790 directors removed the UK as their official residence between last October and July, a 40% increase from the prior year.
  • Departures peaked at 691 in April when the abolition of non-dom status and other tax hikes took effect.
  • More than 150 UK-based company directors relocated to the United Arab Emirates between April and June of this year.
  • High-profile figures leaving include Bart Becht, Mark Makepeace, Riccardo Silva, Eddie Hearn and John Reece.
  • The Treasury insists the new residence-based tax regime is simpler and more attractive despite official non-dom expatriation statistics not due until 2027.
