Exit Polls Put D66 Ahead in Dutch Snap Election as Timmermans Resigns

The proportional system means parties must form a coalition after results are certified.

Overview

  • An Ipsos/NOS exit poll projects D66 at 27 seats, PVV at 25, VVD at 23, GroenLinks–PvdA at 20, and CDA at 19.
  • Ipsos reports a margin of error of about two seats per party, so rankings could shift before the official count due Thursday.
  • Voter turnout reached 76.3% according to NOS, with a record 135–136 thousand Dutch citizens registered to vote from abroad.
  • D66 leaders called it the party’s best-ever result, while PVV is projected to lose seats versus 2023 as CDA, JA21 and FvD post gains and NSC is shown with none.
  • With 76 seats needed for a majority and no party close, negotiations to assemble a governing coalition are expected to be complex.
