Exeter Chiefs staged a remarkable second-half comeback to snatch a 19-18 victory over Toulon in their European campaign opener.
Henry Slade, one of the few players remaining from the side that won the European and domestic double in 2020, was the hero, scoring the winning conversion after Jacques Vermeulen’s late score.
The victory was only Exeter’s second win on the road in 13 months and could mark a defining moment in the evolution of the team.
Toulon, three-times European champions, failed to register a point in the second half, with Enzo Herve's two first-half penalties their last scores.
Exeter's next game is against Munster at Sandy Park on Sunday, 17 December.
