Overview
- Carlos Narváez will be behind the plate for Boston in Tuesday’s Wild Card opener against the Yankees at 6:08 p.m. ET in the Bronx.
- Acquired from New York on Dec. 11 in a deal for prospect Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and international bonus pool money, Narváez became Boston’s everyday catcher after Connor Wong’s early-season injury.
- In 118 games this year, the rookie hit .241 with a .726 OPS, 15 home runs and 50 RBIs while holding the job throughout the regular season.
- He excelled versus the Yankees with a .978 OPS, three homers and seven RBIs in 11 games, including a go-ahead three-run shot on June 8 and a walk-off single six days later.
- Though he did not play, Narváez was on the Yankees’ 2024 World Series taxi squad and says that experience prepared him for this postseason stage; he praised expected Game 1 starter Garrett Crochet as a dominant partner.
