Ex-Wife's Boyfriend Arrested for Targeting Ex-NFL Star Earl Thomas in $1.9M Identity Theft Scheme
Kevin J. Thompson reportedly used fake driver's license and created bogus credit union account to siphon off funds, cashing NFL checks and even transferring ownership of several of Thomas’s vehicles, which he later reportedly tried to retrieve after an arrest.
- Former NFL star Earl Thomas was targeted in a $1.9 million identity theft scheme, masterminded by Kevin J. Thompson, who is currently in a relationship with Thomas' ex-wife, Nina Thomas.
- Thompson used a forged driver's license to set up a credit union account in Thomas' name, withdrawing at least $700,000 and transferring the ownership titles of several of Thomas' vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce SUV.
- Thompson was arrested in June after the fraudulent activities were detected by Thomas' credit union in Texas, which notified authorities; however, he attempted to retrieve the Rolls-Royce after being released from jail, arriving in another vehicle reported stolen in Atlanta.
- Thompson now faces multiple charges including identity theft, forgery, credit card fraud, money laundering, computer fraud, and bank fraud.
- According to Sports Illustrated, Earl and Nina Thomas filed for divorce in 2020 after a domestic incident where Nina allegedly pointed a gun at Earl, who was later accused of violating a protective order against Nina and their two children.
