Overview

  • On May 3 in Thane, Rabodi police filed an FIR against former TMC corporator Mahesh Wagh under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act after he allegedly drove under the influence, collided with Dr. Vishal Acharya’s car, and verbally and physically abused him and his sister.
  • Dr. Vishal Acharya, an orthopaedic surgeon, reported that Wagh slapped him, used foul language and attempted to run his vehicle into theirs following the collision at Meenatai Thackeray Chowk.
  • Witnesses gathered at the scene before Dr. Acharya parked nearby and alerted officers at the police chowki, prompting authorities to book Wagh for rash driving, voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult, and mischief.
  • In a separate incident on May 24 near Vikhroli Traffic Chowky, Pant Nagar police arrested 22-year-old Suraj Jaiswal for fatally stabbing a motorist after a road confrontation and registered a murder case against him.
  • The two arrests have highlighted growing public safety concerns on Mumbai’s roads and intensified calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
