Ex-Teacher Who Posed as Teen Online Jailed for 15 Years in Multi-County Child Abuse Case

A multi-force digital inquiry traced a fake-teen persona across five counties.

Overview

  • Syed Shahreear Ahmed, 37, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court to 15 years in prison with a further five years on licence and lifetime placement on the sex offenders register.
  • Prosecutors said he masqueraded online as a 16–17-year-old to groom girls aged 13 to 15, arranging meetings where he raped and sexually assaulted victims between 2019 and 2023.
  • The case shifted to a Metropolitan Police lead after Kent Police arrested Ahmed on 3 May 2023, triggering a cross-force investigation with Cambridgeshire, Thames Valley, Essex and Hertfordshire.
  • Detectives examined two seized phones holding roughly 500GB of messages, images and videos, reconstructing offenses and identifying six victims across five counties.
  • Police are appealing for additional victims to come forward, while the CPS release lists differing totals for the counts of conviction but confirms the sentence and offence types including rape, grooming and indecent images.
