Ex-Teacher at St Anne’s in Southampton Jailed for Grooming Three Pupils

Prosecutors described a pattern of grooming that exploited his role to target pupils.

Overview

  • Portsmouth Crown Court sentenced Leo Norman, 46, to 14 months in prison after he admitted three counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.
  • He was placed on the sex offenders register for ten years and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
  • The offences occurred between September 2014 and June 2019 at St Anne’s School in Southampton, where he taught English and media and the victims were his pupils.
  • Hampshire Police arrested Norman at his Southampton home on September 20, 2023 following an investigation, and Detective Constable Laura Hardie commended the victims’ bravery in reporting.
  • CPS prosecutor Melissa Garner said he built trust by giving pupils extra attention before touching them inappropriately, and local reporting says some assaults happened on school premises including his office.
