Ex-Postal Inspector Indicted in $330,000 Theft From Scam Victims Pleads Not Guilty

Prosecutors say he exploited a package-interception program targeting lottery-scam shipments.

Overview

  • A federal grand jury returned a 45-count indictment alleging wire and mail fraud, mail theft by a postal officer, money laundering, structuring, theft of government money, and filing false tax returns.
  • Prosecutors say that from 2019 to Aug. 11, 2023 he had about 1,950 JOLT-flagged parcels rerouted to him and opened those that appeared to contain cash.
  • Investigators allege he entered an evidence vault using a keypad code, used another inspector’s key to take $7,000, and then wrote a memo blaming the subordinate.
  • The government says he bought nearly $160,000 in postal money orders, spread over $130,000 in cash deposits across 60 dates and four accounts, and spent funds on home upgrades, Caribbean cruises, and escorts.
  • He appeared in Boston federal court, entered a not-guilty plea, and was released on $25,000 bond as the case proceeds.
