Ex-Khalistani Militant Narain Singh Chaura Attempts Assassination of Sukhbir Badal at Golden Temple

The former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister escaped unharmed after the attack was thwarted by security personnel and bystanders.

Narain Singh Chaura, a former Khalistani militant linked to Babbar Khalsa, attempted to shoot Sukhbir Singh Badal, the former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Sukhbir Badal, who was serving religious punishment as a 'sewadar' at the temple, was unhurt as the bullet missed and hit a wall.
The gunman was subdued by alert security personnel and bystanders before being taken into custody by police on-site.
Chaura, with a history of militancy and criminal activity, was previously involved in the 2004 Burail jailbreak and has faced charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The attack occurred while Badal was performing penance ordered by the Akal Takht for actions during his party's governance from 2007 to 2017.
