Ex-FBI Informant Accused of False Biden Claims Faces New Tax Fraud Charges

Alexander Smirnov, a former FBI informant, has been indicted on 10 tax-related charges, including tax evasion and filing false tax returns for income earned between 2020 and 2022.
Smirnov allegedly concealed over $2 million in income, which prosecutors say funded luxury purchases such as a $1.4 million condo, a Bentley, and high-end clothing and jewelry.
The new charges come as Smirnov awaits trial in January for allegedly fabricating bribery claims against President Joe Biden and Hunter Biden, central to a failed GOP impeachment inquiry.
Prosecutors allege that Smirnov’s claims about the Bidens were politically motivated and included false statements tied to his reported bias during the 2020 presidential campaign.
Smirnov remains in detention due to concerns about his alleged ties to foreign intelligence agents and potential flight risk, with his defense team denying all allegations and preparing to contest the charges.
