Overview
- Mohammed Hanif Khan, 57, pleaded guilty on the day of trial to multiple rapes of a boy he groomed while working as a teacher and imam at Bradford Grand Mosque.
- Prosecutors said he exploited his position of trust by isolating the victim in quiet areas of the mosque and in his on-site accommodation to carry out the assaults.
- He had been serving a 16-year sentence for sexually assaulting two boys in Stoke-on-Trent in 2011 and was recalled to prison in 2023 after fresh allegations emerged.
- The victim, described in court as a shy and introverted child, told judges that Khan’s actions were daily occurrences that ‘destroyed my life’.
- Bradford District Safeguarding Team officers said the case highlights urgent failings in protection and calls for tighter child safeguarding in faith communities.
