Ex-Boyfriend Charged With First-Degree Murder in Calgary Parkade Shooting

Malik appeared in court Tuesday after Cobb’s affidavit chronicled months of stalking, RCMP warnings about his firearm, a June protective order.

Overview

  • Malik was remanded in custody following a justice of the peace appearance that included bail conditions barring contact with witnesses.
  • Calgary Police Service described the July 19 killing of 23-year-old Madisson Cobb as a targeted shooting and said no additional arrests are planned.
  • Cobb obtained a protective order on June 10 after filing a sworn affidavit that detailed daily panic attacks from incessant calls, messages and threats and RCMP confirmation that Malik’s firearm remained unrecovered.
  • Two criminal harassment charges since late May each imposed no-contact conditions and workplace restrictions that Malik allegedly breached.
  • Eric Mason-Ward remains charged with criminal harassment for allegedly following Cobb under a separate court order and is due back in court in early August.
