• Mendoza was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals around 2 p.m. on July 6 as he attempted to re-enter the United States near the California–Mexico border.
• Morgan Hill Police named the 20-year-old former boyfriend a person of interest after he stopped cooperating with the inquiry and left the area.
• More than 30 investigators from Morgan Hill Police, the FBI, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and state agencies have worked on the cross-jurisdictional homicide probe.
• Marissa DiNapoli was reported missing on June 30 and her remains were discovered under a bridge at Anderson Lake on July 2.
