Overview
- Kateryna Tovmash, 21, a Ukrainian refugee, and Matthew Wade, 28, an active-duty U.S. Army servicemember, were found fatally shot on Feb. 14 in Vass, North Carolina.
- Authorities identified the suspect as Tovmash’s former boyfriend, Caleb Hayden Fosnaugh, 25, who was arrested in Ohio later the same day.
- Fosnaugh faces charges of breaking and entering and two counts of first-degree murder as Moore County detectives continue an active investigation.
- Deputies say the attacker unlawfully entered the home, woke the children, and compelled a boy to take him to his sister’s room before opening fire.
- The killings mark the second fatal attack on a Ukrainian refugee in North Carolina within a year, following the August 2025 stabbing of Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte.
