Ex-Acambay Police Chief Gets 46½-Year Extortion Sentence, Lifting Total Prison Term to 115 Years

The convictions arose from Operación Enjambre, a state investigation into public officials suspected of protecting criminal groups.

Overview

  • A control judge on November 21 sentenced Eulises González Hernández to 46 years and six months in prison for extorting a merchant.
  • On October 27 he received 68 years and six months for the forced disappearance of Temascalcingo police chief Agustín Oropeza Armendáriz and his escort, Juan Carlos Zaldívar Zaldívar.
  • FGJEM reports that in June 2024 González recruited and armed people to surveil a chicken shop in Acambay with orders to abduct its owner, then threatened them and their families when they refused.
  • Investigators say the disappearance occurred at a fake checkpoint led by Rodolfo “Tuzantla” of La Familia Michoacana, with several participants in security uniforms and González participating while serving as Acambay police chief.
  • Authorities say he was detained under Operación Enjambre, which the FGJEM reports has yielded 10 convictions against 16 municipal officials and police.
