EverWind Begins Construction on $10B AI Data Campus in Cape Breton

The project would add 420 megawatts of new demand to Nova Scotia’s grid and tie the site to planned onshore wind projects, posing major local power and planning implications.

Overview

  • EverWind Fuels said on Oct. 16, 2026 that construction has started on an ultra‑large AI data centre campus at Point Tupper with a two‑phase build and a roughly $10 billion price tag.
  • The campus is planned for 420 megawatts in total capacity split into a 95 MW first phase expected online by the end of 2027 and a 325 MW second phase in 2028.
  • EverWind has signed a 20‑year lease for the first phase with an unnamed “leading frontier AI developer” but is still raising the bulk of the project financing and has not publicly identified the tenant.
  • Company officials say a system‑impact study shows the grid can support phase one, EverWind will fund required grid upgrades, and provincial regulators have cleared large withdrawals from Landrie Lake while the company estimates cooling needs at about 100,000 litres a day for phase one.
  • EverWind promises about 2,000 construction jobs, 215 permanent roles, a community benefit program worth tens of millions of dollars, and ongoing talks for a proposed 9% Mi'kmaw equity stake, with detailed permits and full regulatory approvals still pending.
