Everett Crane Collapse Victims Identified as Multi-Agency Probe Intensifies

With OSHA constrained by the federal shutdown, the Coast Guard has taken the lead on-site.

Overview

  • Larriston Lake, 44, of Roslindale, and Paul Ledwell, 37, of Middleborough, were named by the Middlesex District Attorney as the two workers who died.
  • The collapse occurred Friday during demolition at the former Exxon terminal on the Mystic River near Encore Boston Harbor.
  • Both men worked for a subcontractor on a Charter Contracting project and were members of Pile Drivers & Divers Local 56.
  • One worker died at the scene and the other at a hospital; the mayor said a snapped cable may have been involved, but the cause remains unconfirmed.
  • The investigation includes the Coast Guard, OSHA, the Middlesex DA’s office, Everett and Massachusetts State Police, and the Medical Examiner, with Charter pledging full cooperation.
