Eventbrite Faces Backlash for Cancelling Conservative Activist Riley Gaines' Event

Cancellation Linked to Eventbrite's "Community Guidelines and Terms"; GOP Senators Raise Concerns Over Allegedly Selective Enforcement

Eventbrite cancelled a speaking event by conservative activist, Riley Gaines, stating it violated their community guidelines and terms of service. The event was titled "Protecting Women's Sports with Riley Gaines" and centered around criticism of transgender women competing in women's professional sports.
Gaines called for a boycott of Eventbrite in response to her event's cancellation, using the hashtag '#EventBrite hates women'. Senator Ted Cruz supported Gaines, calling Eventbrite's policies 'idiotic' and encouraging people to stop supporting corporations that 'hate' them.
Senator Eric Schmitt questioned Eventbrite's decision, accusing the platform of bias in its enforcement of community guidelines. He highlighted that various anti-Israel events remained active on the platform despite Gaines' event being removed.
Schmitt demanded Eventbrite provide a clear list of events which have been unpublished due to violations of terms of service, as well as a list of organizations that have hosted events through the platform.
Gaines compared the proposed boycott of Eventbrite to the 'Bud Light treatment', referring to a previous boycott of the company due to its partnership with transgender activist, Dylan Mulvaney.
