Evenepoel Three-Peats in World Time Trial as Reusser Takes First Individual Gold in Kigali

The first Worlds on African soil showcased a hilly, cobbled test that sets up next weekend’s road race.

  • Remco Evenepoel won a third straight men’s time-trial world title in Kigali with 49:46.03, the only sub-50-minute ride.
  • Australia’s Jay Vine earned silver at 1:14, with Belgian Ilan van Wilder taking bronze by 1.6 seconds as Tadej Pogacar finished fourth.
  • Starting two and a half minutes behind Pogacar, Evenepoel caught the Tour de France winner on the cobbled Kimihurura climb late in the race.
  • Switzerland’s Marlen Reusser claimed her first individual world crown in the women’s event in 43:09, beating Anna van der Breggen by about 52 seconds and Demi Vollering for bronze.
  • Evenepoel joined Michael Rogers and Tony Martin as riders with three consecutive TT titles, and attention now turns to next Sunday’s 267km men’s road race with Pogacar widely viewed as the favorite.
