Overview

  • Remco Evenepoel won a third consecutive men’s time-trial crown and dramatically caught Tadej Pogačar on the cobbled Côte de Kimihurura near the finish.
  • Evenepoel was the only rider to dip under 50 minutes on the 40.6km route, finishing more than a minute clear of the field.
  • Australia’s Jay Vine took silver and Ilan Van Wilder claimed bronze, with Pogačar missing the podium by 1.6 seconds in fourth.
  • Marlen Reusser captured her first individual world title in the women’s time trial, beating Anna van der Breggen by about 52 seconds with Demi Vollering third on a hilly 31.2km course.
  • The Kigali championships opened under political scrutiny of Rwanda’s hosting, and Evenepoel said he will target a fourth straight time-trial title next year in Montreal as focus turns to the elite road races.
