  • Eve Bunting, an acclaimed children's author, has passed away at the age of 94. Known for addressing significant themes such as racial prejudice, war and homelessness, Bunting captured the hearts of children and adults alike with her touching narratives.
  • Born in Northern Ireland, Bunting wrote over 250 books during her lifetime; her first book was published when she was 43. Among her publications were 'One More Flight,' for which she received the Golden Kite Award, and 'Coffin on a Case' which earned her the Edgar Award for best juvenile mystery.
  • Bunting's book 'Smoky Night,' based on the Los Angeles riots following the 1991 beating of Rodney King, was awarded the Caldecott Medal, the highest distinction for an illustrated children's book, for its powerful storytelling and impactful illustrations.
  • In 2006, her book 'One Green Apple', a story about an immigrant child’s experiences, won the inaugural Arab American Book Award for children and young adult literature. Other significant works include ‘Fly Away Home,’ about a father and son living in an airport terminal, and ‘The Wall,’ about a Vietnam War memorial visit.
