Overview
- Christian Haywood, 28, was taken to Evanston Hospital after crisis responders found him exhibiting signs of a mental health condition at a Sherman Avenue Taco Bell
- Once in the emergency room he became agitated, retrieved a handgun and fired at least three rounds, striking a 33-year-old security guard
- The wounded guard underwent surgery and remains stable, and a second security officer suffered a bite injury during Haywood’s apprehension
- Police arrested Haywood on Thursday night and later discovered a second firearm among his possessions at the Evanston Police Department
- Prosecutors have charged him with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery for discharge of a firearm and unlawful gun possession
