Evacuation Order Issued as Beef Trail Creek Wildfire Burns Out of Control in B.C.'s Cariboo

Crews warn hot, dry, windy conditions will drive further growth.

Overview

  • Ulkatcho First Nation and the Cariboo Regional District ordered residents to leave roughly 150 parcels and multiple First Nations reserves east of Tweedsmuir Park and north of Anahim Lake.
  • Evacuees were instructed to travel east on Highway 20 to Williams Lake, which reopened after an overnight closure with warnings of limited visibility.
  • The Beef Trail Creek fire is classified as out of control and was estimated at 27.71 square kilometres as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, with the cause suspected to be lightning.
  • The B.C. Wildfire Service is deploying helicopters and has implemented an area restriction to keep the public out of active operations.
  • Authorities also issued evacuation alerts for 301 additional structures southeast of the evacuation order area.
