Eurostar Restarts Limited Cross-Channel Service After Channel Tunnel Power Failure

Full restoration is expected overnight after repairs to the tunnel’s power supply.

Overview

  • Getlink began a progressive resumption from about 15:00 in France with trains running alternately on a single line, leaving significant delays and residual cancellations.
  • The disruption stemmed from a tunnel power-supply defect followed by a Le Shuttle vehicle stoppage, and the operator reported no trains were stuck inside the tunnel.
  • Eurostar had suspended all services to and from London earlier in the day before gradually restarting, and it continues to urge passengers to postpone travel.
  • At least 25 services were cancelled through the day, crowds built at St Pancras and Gare du Nord, and long vehicle queues formed at the shuttle portals in Calais and Folkestone as limited runs resumed.
  • Eurostar offers free rebooking, 12‑month e‑vouchers, refunds processed within 28 days, and reimbursement of reasonable costs including hotels up to £150/€170, taxis up to £50/€60, and meals up to £35/€40.
