European Postal Services Pause U.S. Parcels as De Minimis Exemption Ends

The shift requires customs declarations for all packages starting Aug. 29.

Overview

  • Belgium’s Bpost will stop accepting parcels to the United States from Friday, citing the need to protect customers from possible extra charges.
  • PostNord and Norway’s Posten Bring have also paused U.S.-bound parcel services, pointing to the short timeframe to adapt and a lack of finalized customs procedures.
  • From Aug. 29, all packages entering the U.S. must be customs-declared after the government ended the de minimis threshold for goods under $800.
  • The change follows a late-July decree by President Donald Trump eliminating the exemption regardless of value, origin or transport method.
  • Letters are unaffected, and DHL says it is still assessing its approach as European operators seek clarity from U.S. authorities.
