Overview
- The survey involved more than 6,700 respondents aged 16 to 26 across seven European countries and found that 57% of Gen Z prefer democracy to other forms of government.
- Support for democratic rule falls below half in Poland at 48%, remains around 51–52% in Spain and France, and peaks at 71% in Germany.
- More than one in five young Europeans (21%) say they would accept authoritarian rule under certain circumstances, rising to 24% in Italy and dipping to 15% in Germany.
- Only 6% of respondents believe their national governments function well without significant changes, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction.
- Thirty-eight per cent of respondents back stricter migration controls and 39% view the EU as not very democratic.
