European Club Cups Open in Rhodes With Round 1 Underway

- The European Chess Union is staging the 40th Open and 29th Women’s Club Cups at the Rodos Palace Conference Hall in Rhodes, Greece.
- Round 1 began at 15:00 EEST (14:00 CEST) with full team pairings published for 51 matches and live boards and PGNs provided by the organizers and chess media.
- Top contenders include BayeganPendik, Alkaloid, Novy Bor and SuperChess, fielding stars such as Anish Giri, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Richard Rapport, Arjun Erigaisi, Wei Yi, Vincent Keymer, Vidit Gujrathi and Dommaraju Gukesh.
- In the women’s competition, the leading seeds are Cercle d'échecs de Monte-Carlo, Turkish Airlines Sports Club, Tajfun SK Ljubljana and SuperChess.
- An opening ceremony at the Palace of the Grand Master welcomed teams, attended by ECU President Zurab Azmaiparashvili, Secretary General Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou and local officials.
