European Club Cups Open in Rhodes With Round 1 Underway

Overview

The European Chess Union is staging the 40th Open and 29th Women’s Club Cups at the Rodos Palace Conference Hall in Rhodes, Greece.
Round 1 began at 15:00 EEST (14:00 CEST) with full team pairings published for 51 matches and live boards and PGNs provided by the organizers and chess media.
Top contenders include BayeganPendik, Alkaloid, Novy Bor and SuperChess, fielding stars such as Anish Giri, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Richard Rapport, Arjun Erigaisi, Wei Yi, Vincent Keymer, Vidit Gujrathi and Dommaraju Gukesh.
In the women’s competition, the leading seeds are Cercle d'échecs de Monte-Carlo, Turkish Airlines Sports Club, Tajfun SK Ljubljana and SuperChess.
An opening ceremony at the Palace of the Grand Master welcomed teams, attended by ECU President Zurab Azmaiparashvili, Secretary General Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou and local officials.
