European Airports Restore Check-In After Cyber Incident Hits Collins Software

Operations are largely restored pending investigations into the passenger-processing fault.

Overview

  • Collins Aerospace, part of RTX, reported an electronic fault in its MUSE platform that disrupted electronic check-in and bag-drop, prompting airports to switch to manual processing.
  • Heathrow said automated check-in was coming back online Sunday with most flights operating, while Berlin maintained manual workarounds and Brussels continued to report delays and selective cancellations.
  • Eurocontrol asked airlines to cancel half of flights to and from Brussels for a set period to manage congestion after Saturday’s long queues and disruptions.
  • Germany’s BSI and the UK’s NCSC engaged with affected parties, and the European Commission said there are no signs of a widespread or severe attack as the cause remains under investigation.
  • Knock-on effects reached Egypt with limited delays on inbound flights to Cairo and some services to Hurghada and Sphinx, while Egyptian carriers reported normal operations.
