Overview

  • European Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius will meet defence ministers next week, with Ukraine invited, to design a coordinated counter-drone barrier along the EU’s eastern border.
  • Britain will deploy RAF Typhoon fighters to fly air-defence missions over Poland in the coming days, with other allies adding aircraft to bolster patrols.
  • Polish and allied jets shot down several Russian-origin drones that crossed into Polish airspace, while Romania scrambled fighters and escorted intruding drones back without firing.
  • US and Western intelligence officials have not reached a consensus on whether the incursions were accidental or deliberate, though NATO leaders condemned the episodes as reckless and dangerous.
  • Ukraine and Poland will form a joint group for counter-drone training, and EU planning envisions layered defences using sensors, jamming and various intercept systems.
