EU Rushes Hundreds of Generators to Ukraine as Germany Sends New Convoys and Mobile Power Plants

Emergency power is being routed to critical services during a deep freeze after strikes crippled the grid.

Overview

  • Ukraine’s ministry reported 300 of an EU-pledged 447 generators are in country from rescEU reserves, following an earlier first batch of 76 reported in Kyiv and Kropyvnytskyi.
  • Distribution is coordinated with the Ukrainian Red Cross, which has logged requests from more than 200 communities across 10 regions.
  • Germany dispatched another convoy with 400 generators for cities including Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv and Odesa, while its ambassador said 33 mobile combined heat and power plants will be delivered next.
  • Kyiv received 130 Polish-funded generators totaling 2,376 kW of capacity, and Polish volunteers delivered 100 additional smaller units for targeted needs.
  • Czech support includes a government allocation of up to 10 million korunas for generators and a civic fundraiser that collected about 126 million korunas to purchase units for hospitals and other facilities.
