EU Investigates Potential Link Between Popular Weight Loss Drugs Like Ozempic and Suicidal Thoughts

The European Medicines Agency is reviewing around 150 reports of suicidal thoughts and self-harm in patients taking GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic, Saxenda, and Wegovy.
The investigation was prompted by cases reported in Iceland involving suicidal thoughts in some Ozempic and Saxenda users.
It's unclear if the drugs directly cause these thoughts or if other factors like underlying conditions are involved.
Novo Nordisk, manufacturer of Ozempic and Wegovy, says its clinical trials don't show a causal link between its drugs and suicidal thoughts.
In the US, the FDA requires warnings about potential suicidal thoughts on the labels of obesity medications like Wegovy.
